Site Layout

Optimum placement of structures may facilitate the option to install a non-powered wastewater disposal system on-site and may also streamline the process of obtaining consent by avoiding placing structures in overland flow paths and flood plains. Well considered placement of access ways may serve to efficiently utilise the drainage created by the construction to protect the wastewater disposal area from runoff. Effective site design will help to minimise costs and utlise the budget effectively.

Our service includes a desk top study, site visit and a preliminary site layout proposal that may be presented to the architect or geotechnical engineer as a starting point to get the planning and site investigation underway.

On-Site Wastewater Design

Onsite wastewater is generated from household usage. The wastewater is discharged from the laundry, kitchen, bathroom , toilet and any other water sources within the household. It may be referred to as wastewater, septic or effluent and consists of grey and black water.

A thoughtful wastewater design has value because it can minimise ongoing maintenance and operating costs for the client and will ideally utilise the discharged wastewater beneficially for the vegetation on site.

Our service includes a site visit with a soil and water table assessment, and a customised wastewater plan which includes the compliance documents to submit to council.

Our on-site wastewater disposal systems are designed in accordance with the Auckland Council Technical Publication 58 (TP58) or the ASNZS:1547 for all other regions.

Stormwater Design

Stormwater is run off from rainfall which travels overland or is discharged in concentrated flows from roof catchments, concrete driveways and other impermeable surfaces. Using rainfall data, modelling and analysis we provide designs and reports for:

  • Flood analysis and over land flow paths (OFP).
  • Coastal inundation risk assessment.
  • Public stormwater infrastructure connections
  • Design of stormwater attenuation

GEOTECHNICAL

Ground investigation is essential for understanding the soil conditions on the site and acquiring parameters for design and costing. The geotechnical engineer will ascertain soil strength and classification and provide parameters for design. These parameters are then used by the structural engineer for foundation and retaining wall design and are also used for earthwork specifications. We collaborate with geotechnical specialists to provide services such as:

  • Ground investigation with foundation recommendations
  • Slope stability analysis
  • Retaining wall design and remediation
  • Construction Monitoring - Earthworks specification, construction certification and reporting

STRUCTURAL

Structural engineering is required to calculate the loads and forces a structure needs to withstand to ensure the building is stable, safe and fit for purpose. Our structural engineer associates provide:

  • Structural engineering design
  • Structural design for reinforced concrete and steel structures

The People

Anna Finkenauer:

Technical Director G.H.E Civil Ltd.

Wastewater & Stormwater Design Consultant.

(NZDE Civil, MEngNZ)

Anna is continuously engaging in professional development to ensure her knowledge is up to date and comprehensive. She has become proficient in site layout strategy and onsite wastewater design in accordance with Auckland Council TP 58 and AS/NZS:1547.

As well as standard wastewater systems, Anna specialises in design of non-powered systems, which cannot be bought off the shelf and require careful consideration and calculation. Anna has successfully helped multiple clients obtain consent for their developments by providing practical wastewater and stormwater designs.

G.H.E Civil was founded by Anna Finkenauer with the ethos of collaborative engineering in which knowledge is freely shared among peers with the intent to achieve the most beneficial outcome for the client and the environment.
